What Are The 7 Deadly Sins In The Bible?

The seven deadly sins are quite old. Although they are not written down, in the Bible they represent the list of everything that God hates. ⚡

1) Geoffrey Chaucer, The Canterbury Tales

The Seven Deadly Sins 😈 remain an intense theme in literature, they are found in particular in the Canterbury Tales which is a collection of tales written as a framework story by Geoffrey Chaucer.

There are also other famous works that deal with the theme of the Seven Deadly Sins as The Decameron, Paradise Lost, and The Divine Comedy 📕

2) The List of the 7 Deadly Sins

In any case, the Catholic Church has definitely adopted this infamous list as a summary of all these vices not to follow. (Opposite to the 7 virtues)

A. Gluttony

Gluttony is certainly one of the 7 deadly sins most committed and at the same time the most accepted, as on Sunday lunchtime, for example, during family meals. It is characterized by overeating. 🤢

Gluttony

This means that eating more than is necessary to endanger your health, so it is a sin.

B. Greed

Also called avarice, Greed can be posed as one of the great problems of the 21st century. 💰💰

Greed

But it also tends to be accepted as something natural in society, since money controls everything and everyone wants more.

Sin is the excessive attachment to money, material possessions, at the expense of company and the word of God.

C. Wrath

The sin of wrath is often exaggerated, uncontrolled.🤯

Wrath

When you thirst for revenge, for example, for the excess of anger that consumes you and you only want bad things for others, you may know that this is when anger has taken over you.

Patience and calm can help you overcome the worst of the seven deadly sins. 😒

D. Lust

Sexual sin, the pleasure of the flesh, passionate desire, sensual and sexual pleasure and material pleasure are emblematic issues of lust. 👄

Lust

This can also lead to even worse abuses such as addictions or the transmission of sexual diseases. This also includes pornography.

E. Envy

Envy is the basis of social networks today. Posting a nice picture of your vacation or your new outfit provokes envy in people who don't have as many privileges or don't have the opportunity to do so. 🤤

envy

This creates conflict in society and is extremely damaging in a person's life.

F. Sloth

How can you not be lazy when everything can be done via your computer or mobile phone? Turning lights on and off, ordering food, looking for work... It's all easier, isn't it?

sloth

It's easier, but it's not right. God doesn't like laziness and He expresses it very clearly in the Bible and yes, sloth is one of seven deadly sins. 😴

G. Pride

The sin of pride is to be conceited is to be narcissistic, to be always impressed by one's own beauty. 💁‍♂

pride

A proud person who believes herself to be the most beautiful in the world is bound to treat others as inferior beings.

4) Different Kinds of Sins in the Bible

😈 7 deadly sins are defined first of all by the person it affects: it can harm the person committing it or an outside person.

different kinds of sins in the bible

It is then divided into several sub-categories:

A. Causing Harm to One's Own Person

If you don't perform the daily spiritual rituals.
If you do not keep control over your desires, ambitions or any other cravings generated by your sensory organs.

B. If You Cause Harm To Others

If you unconsciously harm another living being. Example: stepping on an insect without meaning to. These are usually small, unwanted sins that are atoned for by regular practice.
If you deliberately harm others. In this case, the consequences are more serious and atonement is made more difficult.

5) What Are The Different Types Of Sin?

Beyond the person affected, sin can be committed in different ways. The types of sins are therefore defined by virtue of body, word, and spirit.

What Are The Different Types Of Sin?

A. Physical Sin

Committing sin with the help of one's body.

B. Verbal Sin

Words, if malicious, can be the source of verbal sin 🗣 (lying, insulting, etc.).

C. Mortal Sins

Very serious sin 💀 (violence, adultery, murder...) and committed knowingly

D. Sinful Mind

One can sin when one wishes harm to someone 🗯️(out of jealousy, revenge, pure wickedness...) The negative waves that result from these malicious thoughts give rise to sin.

6) The 7 Deadly Sins in the Bible Verse

Proverbs 6:16-19

"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community."

Colossians 3:8

"But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips"

Hebrews 13:5

"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”

Matthew 6:24

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

James 2:8

"If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing right."

1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Romans 6:23

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

James 2:10

"For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."

7) Seven deadly sins and how to overcome them

  • Separate yourself from temptations and people or things that influence you to sin. 🙅‍♂
  • Confess your sins to your close friends in faith and pray with them. By confessing your sins to others, you are literally stepping into the light. This step of humility spiritually breaks the bond you have made with that sin and frees you from its hold. 🙏

confess sins

  • Every day, have an intimate, simple and authentic one-to-one relationship with God.
  • Read your Bible every day. 📖
  • Be active for God, avoid idleness, for idleness is one of the gateways to lust. Remember: King David fell with Bath-Sheba because he remained idle at home instead of being at the front with his soldiers.

Many believers struggle with 7 deadly sins because they spend their time watching TV, playing games 🎮  chatting or surfing on Facebook instead of being active for God and nourishing their spirit in the things of the Spirit. 🕊️

Will we ever be forgiven if we commit the seven sins if we repent.

Jesus gave us Deliverance as the children’s bread. We really need to eat more of it as children of the Lord who need to cleanse our souls to be more like Him. The more of the old man of sin and demonic strongholds we can put to death, we make a way for The Christ in us to manifest the more. We have been given authority, baptism of the Holy Spirit, weapons of praise and worship, reading the Bible, gifts of the Spirit, learning to hear the voice of the Lord speaking to us by the indwelling Holy Spirit, we have Angels to help us and we have our Lord and King Jesus representing us as our counselor in the courts of heaven, we have a Loving and All Powerful Father…so let us work on ourselves so we can be used by The Lord to bring more souls into His Kingdom.
